Waterboy

For democratic voters it's been perplexing how little has changed in Congress despite its recent change in makeup. It has become clear that much of the problem is Harry Reid.
"Harry Reid -- who has (a) done more than any other individual to ensure that Bush's demands for telecom immunity and warrantless eavesdropping powers will be met in full and (b) allowed the Republicans all year to block virtually every bill without having to bother to actually filibuster -- went to the Senate floor yesterday and, with the scripted assistance of Mitch McConnell and Pat Leahy, warned Chris Dodd, Russ Feingold and others that they would be selfishly wreaking havoc on the schedules of their fellow Senators (making them work over the weekend, ruining their planned 'retreat,' and even preventing them from going to Davos!) if they bothered everyone with their annoying, pointless little filibuster."

Senator Feinstein has been Bush's other key enabler in the Senate, but has mostly been able to use the intricacies of Senate procedure to obscure the effect of her carefully-chosen votes.

None of the Democrats in the last two Senates have covered themselves in glory by standing up for the Constitution and the rule of law, saving only Russ Feingold, who has bravely and alone pointed out over and over that the emperor is unclothed.

And now Sen Dodd is leading the nation.

All the remaining Dem Presidential candidates are too timid to stand up against Bush's demand for FISA/retroactive telecom immunity.
