Prions Found In Organs Other Than The Brain
It just makes sense that if an animal is sick it's probably not a good idea to eat it. The meat producers may just have to take diseased animals out of the food chain.

Government regulation at work destroying the free market by driving everything down to the lowest common denominator and embracing corruption to protect the dirtiest players.
In a free market your "good will" is an extremely valuable asset that can easily be lost by selling an inferior product. However, insert the government into the equation and good will no longer means anything. Any schmuck who can pass the minimal requirements gets the USDA stamp of approval and is treated as an equal of the most careful of producers. When the government regulators become as corrupt and entrenched as they are today, rather than protect consumers, they conspire against us to shield politically connected insiders from liability.
